Possibilities For Using The Service Within Your School.

Individual work:

Sessions are usually one full lesson (1 hour) in duration. This time could be divided into two or three short sessions with younger children.

Group Work:

There are many possibilities. Popular choices in schools currently include:

Therapeutic Stories:

8 Week programme for young children based on the stories of Margot Sunderland. Each session focuses on a different topic such as self esteem, loss, anxiety etc. Together with the story each session involves a mixture of education, fun games, role play, discussion and craft.

Cool Connections with CBT:

Encouraging Self-esteem, Resilience and Well-being in Children and Young People. A10 Week Group Programme (Written & Published by myself)

Assembly on a Theme:

Five 30-40 minute discussions & fun presentations on topical themes including Bullying, Coping with anger, Worries, Friendships, Loss & Bereavement. Pupils are encouraged to complete a fun activity to help facilitate learning between each session.
School can borrow a DVD on each topic to be shown to the children between each session
The above groups are flexible and can either be offered to a select few children or adapted for a whole class.

Possibilities For Your School To Benefit from The Service Without Cost To The School:

  • General advert within school increasing awareness of the service.
  • Pass on my details to any children/parents by word of mouth
  • Circulate my details (flyer, poster or note in school magazine)

Example:

  • Schools identify children who may benefit from individual or group work.  (self esteem, anxiety, anger management, low mood, stress, loss, family issues, bullying, etc)
  • Schools contact parents sending leaflet. Suggesting child may benefit from service and could be seen at reduced rate in school
  • School contact me with any names and times children can be seen.
  • Parents are invoiced independently

Benefits:

  • Children feel better about themselves
  • Behaviour improves – less time need by teachers offering additional support
  • Higher academic achievement –
  • Reduced risk of further emotional/mental health difficulties in the future
  • Less involvement/time away from school seeing outside professionals (CAMHS etc)
  • Teachers/staff can discuss children personally without needing to attend meetings etc
  • Support for parents
  • Can be linked in with parts of the National Curriculum (PGSE). Also can be linked with SEAL programme which has now been introduced within schools.
